Splash Park Fun!

After several days of some much needed rain, today was finally sunny and warm again.  We wasted no time in taking advantage of the weather change and hit the splash park for a little something different.  It had been awhile and the kids played non stop for a little over three hours.  It was wonderful and I started reading another book.  I have read so many books this summer which is something I had dearly missed.  I love to read and it has been nice to have the time.

At some point poor Boo was stung by a bee, but that didn't stop her for long.  Once she was sure the bee was dead she was back off for some fun!  We also turned in our last reading sheets for the summer reading program at the library.  The kids have had a lot of fun with this, Chiggie for sure.  They were entered into a couple of drawings for some awesome prizes, but even if they don't win anything it was a lot of fun!

A New School Year

No, not quite yet, but soon.  I have been planning like crazy and dare I say it, but I am very excited about this upcoming school year.  Both Chiggie and Tea will be using a curriculum that is brand spankin' new to us and has some awesome features that allow them to be much more independent (more on that in a later post).  This is exciting because it will hopefully free up my time to work with the younger 3.  I say 3 because poor Buster just refuses to be left out.  He has no interest in playing during school time and has made it very clear that he will be doing school this year.  I will be getting him some coloring books and such so that he can listen along even when he can't do the same work the other 2 are doing.  We plan to begin our year on Monday August 26th.  That will give  us a week to get adjusted and then a 3 day weekend to collect ourselves afterwards.

A new year is always an exciting time and I love to see the progress we have made.  Speaking of progress, I went ahead and had the older two girls tested.  Mostly because they have to be tested at the end of this upcoming year anyway and I wanted to know beforehand if there were any weak areas.  I was rather shocked to see that despite the crazy year we just came out of they both made leaps and bounds of progress. They both tested grade levels ahead in all subjects.  While it doesn't really change my plans for this year, it was a relief to see that they really are growing and learning!  This summer has helped cover the physical and social aspects that I felt were weak before as well.  The kids are riding their bikes everyday, swimming several times a week, and walking all around the park several times a day.  This weekend they were asked to have a lemonade stand at the front office to welcome in several large groups the park is expecting and Chiggie has also had several babysitting jobs right here in the park as well.  I am learning to relax a little and just let life happen...we are truly blessed!

9!

On Friday, Tea turned 9 and celebrate we did.  She had her birthday dinner at Casa Bonita and the food did not disappoint.

They played lots of games, watched a couple of shows, and ate candy.  It was a great night followed up by an overnight stay in a hotel and a fabulous day at a theme park celebrating both of last weeks birthdays.  That will be another post though!

Rain, Rain, Go Away

It has been raining a lot the last two days and there is more in the forecast.  Normally I would love this, but for some reason I am not lovin' it lately.  It could be the horrible headache I have had for two days straight.  Or maybe the lack of sleep that comes when the same little girl comes and asks me 300 times a night if it's going to flood or hail or if there will be a tornado.  Or it could possibly be the mud that is now ingrained in the carpet, which instead of tan is now more of a mud streaked brown.   I am thankful for the moisture, but I am ready for a little more sunshine!

Happy 6th Birthday Boo!

I cannot imagine a sweeter, funnier, more joyful 6 year old little girl.  She loves sports, food, and playing with her baby dolls.  To celebrate today we had a picnic in the beautiful weather at the rec center park.

She loves to swim so it was a perfect activity for today.  She amazes me with her abilities in the water.  She is a good little swimmer!

Tonight we had a nice dinner and I made the pink lemonade cookies she picked out.  We love you so much Boo and I hope you had a wonderful day!

Accomplishment

In late April I started the hardest college course I had taken up to this point.  The dreaded probability and statistics.  Not only was I not pleased to have to take the course, but over summer vacation? Seriously?  While the kids swam in the beach I was silently stewing over standard deviations and while they all danced and played to the music of the Saturday night band I was thinking about correlation coefficients and trying to solve the problems associated with poverty and its effect on single moms.  I wanted to quit.  Every weekend I told my husband I was.  I wanted to withdraw and just try another time.  Take a break.  Just relax a little and worry about it later. But I didn't.  I completed two major PowerPoint presentations, two 5+ page exams, and multiple papers discussing the integration of Christian faith into statistics.  Today I submitted my final and bid the course adieu!  It felt like a million tons had been lifted from my shoulders.  I am so happy that I stuck it out.  I always tell the kids that life is much more about joyfully doing the things we don't want to do, than it is having fun but living that out was a tall order.  I am on to other things now but I will never forget the summer I took statistics!

Summer Days

We have been exceptionally busy this summer, but not in the mundane exhausting sense. We have been enjoying the longer, warmer days, and later bed times.  Some of our favorites have been:

  • The lake.  We love, love, love going to the lake.  There is a huge park, plenty of shade, and the kids love to swim and play in the sand. Added bonus, it's completely free!
  • The rec center.  We bought a summer pass that is good through September and it has paid for itself already.  This has been awesome on rainy days, super hot days, and at night.
  • Riding bikes.  This is the first year that all 5 kids can ride a bike.  The older 4 are all training wheel free and ride with what seems like endless energy.
  • Picnics....need I say more?
  • Bands and Karaoke at the pavillion.  The kids have also been hired to run a lemondade stand on Saturday nights.  They are very excited.
I hope your summer is going equally as well as ours.  It will be all too soon and the leaves will fall, the sun set at 5 and then snow!

Growing Up

Chiggie is really growing up.  This summer she has taken a series of classes at the local library.  They made worry stones, a terrarium, and leaned about different hairstyles.  She has had a lot of fun and has given her some time to meet new people too.

Here is the beautiful waterfall braid she had done and also a few hot huez.  She was disappointed that they washed out the next day at the pool, but it was fun while it lasted.
I also love how these pictures give a play by play of Boo sneaking into the leftover lasagna on the stove...busted!

Mini-Vacation

Last weekend my cousin and dear friend go married and we were blessed with both an invitation and the opportunity to go.  It was a very quick trip, but it was so very good to see my family again. Some of whom I have not seen in years.

We enjoyed the weekend in a hotel and the kids got to swim with all the other kids which made them very happy too!

The first night these two weren't feeling well, but they cuddled up in bed and watched t.v.  Even sick they are so darn cute!

Some of the grandkids gathered to watch Mema open 50 presents from my sister in honor of her belated 5oth birthday.  All of the kids really liked this part too.

Later we ordered pizza and swam some more.  The wedding wasn't until that night which gave everyone the whole day to chat and relax.  I am so glad we went.

Bike Parade

I am behind with my blogging yet again, but I have come to realize that usually just means were having fun.  The weekend of the 4th, a fun event I remember, was the bike parade for the kids.  They had so much fun decorating their bikes and then riding them for the crowd.

Chiggie's bike took 1st place and she got a t-shirt and a medal.  She was proud because she decorated her bike all on her own.
Buster was bound and determined to ride on his own.  Once he couldn't go any further he was picked up by a golf cart and his bike placed in the back on display.  He thought that was pretty cool.

Chiggie proudly wore her shirt and medal the rest of the day.  I think they will remember this parade for a long time!

Fun Weekend

We have had a great weekend full of fun activities here at the RV park.  Yesterday the kids played games in the morning.  One of their favorites was this one, where they had to suck candy up with a straw and move it into another cup.  It was really cute to watch too!

Then they had to shake golf balls off a box belted around their waste.  This was hilarious to watch and they laughed a lot!

Of course any game involving water is a hit with my kids, so they loved the sponge relay.  One poor little guy slipped and fell into the pool!
Random, but cute, Buster got this toy when we were out shopping the other day.  It's a truck pulling a 5th wheel.  The set was called "camping adventure."  We thought that was pretty appropriate!
